First Finished Socks of the Year!

The Watson Socks are done and I think they look fantastic. I tend to go for bright colours and fancy patterns for socks but this pair makes me think that I need to make myself more simple but elegant socks like these.

They were a lot of fun to knit because of the textured pattern and it was easy to keep track of when to do the cables without counting as well which was really nice. I ended up mirroring the cables on the second sock as I usually do, I don’t think that you really would ever notice but somehow it just makes me feel better knowing that they are opposites.

I’m almost halfway done another pair of socks as well, I decided to do an semi afterthought heel for these so that the pooling pattern wouldn’t be disrupted by the gusset and I’m going to do both heels after I finish knitting the body of the second sock. These socks are just so much fun to knit with the bright colours and the fun striping, it feels like they are absolutely flying along. I’m loving the feel of the yarn as well, its somehow both soft and sturdy feeling, I think I’m going to have to figure out where I can get more of it.

This sock is actually cast off now but I liked this picture so much that I just couldn’t resist sharing it.

I also started a pair of leftover socks today too, they don’t look like much yet but they are going to be rainbow striped. I can’t remember if I ever wrote about these socks on the blog or not as they were a birthday pair for Bilbo so I’m going to just post a picture anyways. The pattern is Stitch Surfer by Louise Robert and the rainbow yarn is Turtlepurl Yarns Striped Turtle Toes in the colourway Om.

The leftovers sock that I’m making for myself (since the socks for Bilbo only used up half a ball of each yarn) are just going to be plain stripy socks with a blue heel, toe and cuff and I’m thinking I’m going to switch to the stripy yarn sometime around the ball of my foot (like the Squircle Socks by General Hogbuffer, though the rest of my socks are going to be very different). I think that these socks are going to be so much fun to knit and to wear.

It feels great to be back to knitting socks again!
