Zoom

Normally I have atleast 2 projects on the go at any one time, one for when I am at home and one for when I am out. Lately I have been working on the Samwise socks when I have been out of the house but seeing pictures of a second sock isn’t the most interesting thing ever so today I am going to talk about my current home project.

As you may have guessed by the squares it’s a blanket project. I had a lot of leftover Knit Picks Palette yarn in a couple of different colours after I had knit a Colour Affection shawl by Veera Valimaki and a Carson shawl by Rosemary Hill (yes, I knit shawls out of palette because it’s inexpensive and I wanted to try it out, I probably wouldn’t do it again) and I decided that I needed to do something with it. Just a little while before that I had bought a Zoom Loom specifically because it looked like fun and I thought it would be good for using up leftovers because it will make the same size square without needed to worry about gauge and how many stitches to cast on like you need to for knitting (I have learned since then that the weight of yarn you use affects the appearance of the finished square). Also I thought of making a blanket because at that time I was spending a lot of time in a room with very bad insulation (and it was winter) and I was always freezing cold. So I started working on squares but I didn’t get very much done on it before I got distracted, recently I picked it back up again and decided to finish it, I now have 40 squares done.

Since I’m working each square with fingering weight yarn they’re pretty loose and drapey, I think that this will make a realy nice blanket to throw over my shoulders on a cool summer night or to put on my lap in the winter. I’m thinking I would like to do some sort of tartan-esque pattern with the squares but I’m not sure what I will end up with yet as it kinda depends on how many squares I get in each colour. This is the yarn that I have and the colours, the red is finished but I have a lot more of the orange than isnt in the picture, I don’t know how much of it I want to use though. Also if I decide it’s not enough yarn I could always buy some more or get more colours. Are there any suggestions for colour or patterns?

I’m also debating felting the whole blanket after its done, I’m really on the fence about that one though. What do you guys think, would felting it make it better?
